On Asymptotic Dimension of Countable Abelian Groups

We compute the asymptotic dimension of the rationals given with an invariant proper metric. Also we show that a countable torsion abelian group taken with an invariant proper metric has asymptotic dimension zero.

On Countable Extensions of Primary Abelian Groups

It is proved that if A is an abelian p-group with a pure subgroup G so that A/G is at most countable and G is either p-totally projective or p-summable, then A is either p-totally projective or p-summable as well. Moreover, if in addition G is nice in A, then G being either strongly p-totally projective or strongly p-summable implies that so is A. This generalizes a classical result of Wallace ...

Ordered abelian groups over a CW complex

If X is a CW complex, one can assign to each point of X an ordered abelian group of finite rank whose subset of positive elements depends continuously on the points of X. A locally trivial bundle which arises in this way we denote by EX . In the present work we establish a topological classification of such bundles in terms of the first cohomology group of X with coefficients in the ring Z2.

Plünnecke Inequalities for Countable Abelian Groups

We establish in this paper a new form of Plünnecke-type inequalities for ergodic probability measure-preserving actions of any countable abelian group. Using a correspondence principle for product sets, this allows us to deduce lower bounds on the upper and lower Banach densities of any product set in terms of the upper Banach density of an iterated product set of one of its addends. These boun...

Countable Extensions of Torsion Abelian Groups

Suppose A is an abelian torsion group with a subgroup G such that A/G is countable that is, in other words, A is a torsion countable abelian extension of G. A problem of some group-theoretic interest is that of whether G ∈ K, a class of abelian groups, does imply that A ∈ K. The aim of the present paper is to settle the question for certain kinds of groups, thus extending a classical result due...
